John McInerney is vice president of marketing & communications at the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. He joined the Cultural Alliance’s staff in 2004 and oversees all marketing and public relations. He directs the recently announced Engage 2020, a $6.3 million initiative focused on doubling cultural participation in Greater Philadelphia by 2020. Individual programs include the country’s largest cultural mailing list cooperative, the Philadelphia Cultural List Cooperative; PhillyFunGuide.com, an award winning online events calendar; and the popular FunSavers half-price ticket program, which reaches 68,000 weekly e-mail subscribers and returns $600,000 annually in ticket sales for 250+ participating cultural organizations. Engage 2020 also includes the establishment of a broad series of new research initiatives including a Cultural Engagement Index that will assess cultural participation in the general population.
