Lisa Caretto
Lisa Caretto is the president and legislative chair of California Arts Advocates (CAA). CAA is a membership organization, representing artists, arts organizations, and Californians who support the arts. Its membership represents a broad spectrum of budget sizes, arts disciplines, diverse cultures, audiences, and regions. As president and legislative chair, she works closely with the CAA lobbyist, monitoring state legislation that impacts arts and culture in California, including state funding for the California Arts Council and arts in education. She meets with legislators; the governor's office; testifies before Assembly and Senate committee hearings to ensure that the interests of the arts are reflected in laws, public policies, and budgets; sends legislative updates and action alert e-mails to arts supporters, media, and policy-makers; and maintains the www.CaliforniaArtsAdvocates.org website with current information and research.
Lisa is also the legislative liaison for the Association of California Symphony Orchestras, and the California co-captain for the Americans for the Arts State Action Network. Lisa has consulted with the Arts and Business Council of Sacramento/Sacramento Metro Chamber to develop advocacy training programs for arts organizations. She is a past board member of the League of Sacramento Theatres, River City Theatre Company, and the St. Francis High School Patrons of the Arts.
Lisa and her husband, Steve, developed, and operated for several years, the Sacramento Performing Arts Center to provide office and rehearsal space for arts organizations. During that time, they produced several plays, musical theater workshops for children, and music concerts.
