The 2006 Emerging Leaders AZ Creative Conversation “Do YOU Show Up?” will allow participants to discuss their organization and what activities are forthcoming in the 2006-2007 season.  Alliance for Audience will make a presentation about showup.com and the new showup now pass!  Please bring brochures and flyers on your organization and events, as well as business cards for networking.  For the 2006 Creative Conversation, there will be a raffle, prizes include show tickets, museum passes and a scholarship for the 2007 Southwest Arts Conference! Meet at the Hirshhorn fountain at 11:45 a.m. for a private tour of Ways of Seeing: John Baldessari Explores the Collection with chief curator Kerry Broughter. Participants will tour this exhibit and then convene in another Smithsonian space for a brown bag lunch and discussion. This event is free of charge, but advance registration is required, and space is limited. Box lunch will be provided.

Registrants should meet outside Flashpoint by 6:30 p.m. in time for Sol ySoul's 7:00 p.m. performance of The Other Side, the first spoken word theater piece produced under the direction of its new artistic director, Regie Cabico. The play brings Washington DC's most diverse poets, storytellers & theater artists entering into a reverse Washington, DC/ and out of a Washington, CD parallel universe. Its Lost meets The Twilight Zone. Gentrification & race fall through surreal spoken word, character monologues & neo-futurist two minute plays. This event is free of charge, but advance registration is required, and space is limited. Only registrants who are serious about attending the performance and staying for the post-production dialogue should sign up.

After a jam-packed month of creative conversations and arts-based experiences in the DC-area, Americans for the Arts will sponsor a creative conversation and reception.  Meet new and old colleagues, explore The Warehouse’s new exhibit, and participate in discussions about how local emerging arts leaders might gather to create a local network in the Washington, DC-area. Guest Speaker: Jeff Syroney, Executive Director of InkTank 

Jeff Syroney is the Executive Director of InkTank, a non-profit writing and literacy center dedicated to connecting new and experienced writers into the larger community. Before working at InkTank, he served as the Director of Marketing and Communications for Cincinnati Ballet. Jeff is also the founding board president of Cincinnati Experimental Arts, the umbrella organization that produces the successful Cincinnati Fringe Festival. He sits on the boards of Know Theatre of Cincinnati, Enjoy The Arts/START as well as the local steering committee for the National Arts Marketing Project. He is an associate editor of Queen City Forum, an electronic political publication and was recently awarded the 2005 “Defender of Literacy” award by the Society of Professional Journalism as well as The Business Courier’s Forty under 40 Award. In 2006, he was voted CityBeat’s best Arts Director in Cincinnati and was accepted into the Cincinnati Chamber’s prestigious inaugural C-Change Class for young professional leadership.

Join us in a two-part discussion.  The focus is on emerging leaders, but the only prerequisite for joining is an interest in exploring new directions, connections and ideas about the evolving cultural landscape.

Part 1: Identifying Each Other, Identifying the Issues; Moderated by Paige Weinheimer of 4Culture; and Cathy Nanda of City of Bellevue Arts Program.
