The annual Year In Review highlights innovative and exemplary examples of contemporary public art. Projects are submitted by artists and arts administrators through an open call process. The 2009 Year in Review Call for Projects will be available January 28, 2009. Application submissions are being accepted on CaFE.
2007 Year in Review
The 2007 Year in Review was presented at the 2007 Annual Americans for the Arts Convention, Risk and Reward: Balancing Acts in Arts and Community, June 3, 2007 in Las Vegas. Artist Larry Kirkland and writer and art history professor Miwon Kwon selected and presented their top 40 public artworks from 240 submissions. The 2007 Public Art Network Year in Review CD-ROM is available in the Americans for the Arts Store. The 2007 Year in Review projects list highlights the projects, artist, and commissioning agencies.
2006 Year in Review
The 2006 Year in Review public art conference session was presented at the annual Americans for the Arts public art preconference, Material Meaning: Process, Product, and Preservation in Public Art in Milwaukee, June 2, 2006. Artist Mary Miss and Robert Rindler, president of the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, selected and presented their top 40 public artworks from 183 submissions. The Year in Review represents the most exemplary public art projects completed between April 2005 and April 2006 in the United States. Selected public artworks include pieces by artists Jenny Holzer, Sarah Sze, Julian Opie, and Jorge Orta, to name a few. The 2006 Public Art Network Year in Review CD-ROM is available in the Americans for the Arts Store.
2005 Year in Review
The 2005 Year in Review public art conference session was presented at The Lay of the Land: Public Art, Politics, and the Environment in Austin, TX, on June 10, 2005, by artist Donald Lipski and urban design and planning consultant Sherry Kafka Wagner. They reviewed and presented their selections of the most exciting, compelling, and innovative public art projects completed between April 2004 and April 2005 in the United States and beyond.
